A must read Christmas novella

I love Christmas novellas and I enjoyed every single word of Talli Roland's Last Christmas. Roland is a talented author who creates a fun world that it's easy to slip into. Highly recommended!

Want a Good Christmas Read? Last Christmas will satisfy!

I purchased this via Amazon UK.

Another gem from Talli Roland. This delight of a story really did have me curling up, and enjoying the life of Lucy. This character has a strong personality, as does her assistant, I became engrossed in her romance and rejection, so much so, I would love to read more about her life after, Last Christmas. That is down to the talent of Talli Roland, she brings her characters alive with their quirks and vices. They have disasters or happiness, then a combination of both, and you are turning pages to absorb what happens next.

The story is dotted with sadness, humour, upset, and joy. I am a fan of Ms. Roland (a very descriptive writer), and am always happy to recommend her books. This one really does have a 'feel good factor' to it. Grab a cuppa, curl up on the sofa, and drift into the life of a young woman battling with why her long-term boyfriend walked away, and of how she saved his wedding day from disaster. Definitely a good Christmas read!

Brilliant novella! Loved everything about it!

It happens rarely that I give a novella 5*. Actually I think this might be the second time in my life, first one being when I read ‘Swim’ by Jennifer Weiner. Well, it’s not I’m a stingy reader, but I’ve read quite a lot of books and personally think someones needs to be very very good at writing to impress me with 50-100 pages.
But Talli Roland did it! As I read the last page and put down the kindle I thought OMG, THIS IS SO SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED!

The story is centered around Lucy who’s been dumped last Christmas and naturally is not looking forward to this one. Instead of thinking of Christmas as a fun and festive time, she’s reminded of her past and the man who dumped her on very Christmas day. Robert has been his first lover, her best friend, someone she relied on for 15 years. Losing him leaves her more than heart broken. She actually thinks she will never be merry for Christmas. And after just one year of their break up she finds out he’s getting married on Christmas! Trying to get away from an awkward and humiliating situation when meeting Robert and his future wife, she comes up with an epic lie. She tells them she’s gonna host a mega party for Christmas and won’t be able to make it to their wedding. She feels like everything but partying, but ‘when a door closes, a window opens’.

This is a brilliant novella! I totally loved everything about it, from the unique story, the twists I totally didn’t expect to the characters who are brilliantly developed. Lucy is a fantastic girl, she’s not whiny and doesn’t act ll depressed (though she’s heart broken) and she surprised me with how kind she is, despite everything Robert did to her.
This novella was a pretty strange experience (but a good one) for me, I was literally blown away by this read. I do wish it was longer, but still it’s a fantastic story I’m sure everyone will enjoy. It got me immediately hooked and held me till the last page. It’s a fantastic festive and feel good read, one you’ll devour in just an hour (or less). So, do not hesitate and get it now, you’ll enjoy it – I promise! Well done Talli, I AM YOUR FAN!

Tony escribió para el "Diario Las Américas" 1995-1998, la columna semanal "Hoy en Bienes Raíces", así como en 1998 fue presentador y moderador del programa televisivo del mismo nombre para Canal 41, de Miami.

En la actualidad publica una sección semanal, sobre Bienes Raíces, en "El Nuevo Herald" de Miami, Florida y otra similar y de igual frecuencia en el diario "La Opinión" de Los Angeles, California.

me agrado el libro y lo puse en acciòn,incluye un CD con contratos,en ingles y español,para decir verdad,el libro me saliò gratis,porque utilicè uno de los contratos para rentar una casa,y las copias estan alrededor de $25.00 o màs.lo recomiendo a cualquiera que quiera comenzar el mundo de los bienes y raices,maxime en USA.

Es verdad que el libro contiene muy buenas ideas y consejos que jamás había
leído en ningún otro libro de Bienes Raíces. Y aunque estas ideas y consejos
se pueden aplicar en cualquier lugar del planeta, está enfocado únicamente
al mercado gringo.

Pros:

-Lectura fácil
-Bien organizada
-Cada tema no tiene más de dos hojas
-No es aburrido
-Buenas ideas y consejos

Contras:

-Cada tema termina con su monólogo de
"Recomiendo buscar asesoramiento de un Abogado,
un Contador y un Agente de Bienes Raíces"

No tengo nada en contra de ello pero parece desesperado tratando de venderse a si mismo y a su empresa la cual ha puesto con fotos y todo al final del libro.

North American P-51 Mustang--Owner's Workshop Manual

I was quite disappointed when I received the book. I was expecting something more along the lines of the Haynes car manuals. Cutaways, assembly instructions, specifications, etc. This book has numerous photos of a restored P-51 but not to anything near original.

If you just want photos of a P-51, it's fine. If you want lots of details for building an accurate model, save your money.

A Mixed Bag

I've really come to love Haynes' "workshop manuals." They're great books for anyone seriously interested in learning more about the inner workings of historic vehicles, modern-day restoration, and insights into everyday maintenance and use.

That said, this entry in the series is kind of underwhelming. There's a few nice overview diagrams of the aircraft's systems, but as a whole it's lacking in detail. The book seems to take a broad look at the P-51, never really going into the same level of detail many other Haynes titles provide. The sections on the aircraft's anatomy, flying qualities, and maintenance are awfully basic, compared to the Haynes books on the F-86 and Spitfire, to give two examples. Many important aircraft systems are skimmed over in a couple paragraphs, while the section on post-war racing Mustangs goes on for eight pages.

There are plenty of nice photographs, including a nicely done photographic essay on the restoration of P-51D 44-13521 "Marinell," and the stories of wartime P-51 pilots were interesting to read. The checklists at the end, showing every step of a 25-hour and 100-hour inspection, demonstrate how much work it takes to keep a high-performance military aircraft flying. And you thought changing your car's oil was a pain! This book would makes a nice introduction to the type, but kind of falls short as a technical study. Don't go in expecting exploded views of propeller pitch mechanisms, close-ups of the undercarriage locking pins, or diagrams showing the locations of lubricating points, and you might enjoy it.

P-51 Book...Not What It Seems!

Jarrod Cotter and Maurice Hammond's NORTH AMERICAN P-51 MUSTANG, 1940 ONWARDS (ALL MARKS) is supposed to be part of Haynes Publications' OWNERS' WORKSHOP MANUAL series. I say 'supposedly' because it doesn't match up with other Haynes airplane manuals I've seen in the series Nor does it really merit its sub-title: AN INSIGHT INTO OWNING, RESTORING, SERVICING AND FLYING AMERICA'S CLASSIC WORLD WAR II FIGHTER.

In reality this 2010 Haynes Publishing release is more a general history of the P-51 with sections on development, combat ops, aircraft structure and systems, pilots' impressions, etc.

Cotter and Hammond's book is entertaining and informative but it's more an overview of North American's legendary fighter than a guide to owning and operating a P-51. Your call, folks.

About the Author
Karen Mundy is a Professor, Associate Dean of Research, and Canada Research Chair at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, where she directs the Comparative, International and Development Education Centre (CIDEC). Her research has focuses on the global politics of “education for all” programs and policies, education reform in sub-Saharan Africa, the role of civil society in the reform of educational systems, and the policy influence of international organizations, such as the World Bank, UNESCO and the WTO. A former president of the Comparative International Education Society, Dr. Mundy has published five books and more than four dozen articles and book chapters, and is a contributor to dozens of policy papers and reports.

Andy Green is Professor of Comparative Social Science at UCL Institute of Education and Director of the ESRC Centre for Learning and Life Chances. A frequent consultant to international bodies, such as CEDEFOP, the European Commission, OECD and UNESCO, and to the UK government departments, Dr. Green has published eighteen books, including: Education, Globalization and the Nation State (1997); Regimes of Social Cohesion: Societies and the Crisis of Globalization (2014, with J.G. Janmaat) and Education and State Formation: Europe, East Asia and the USA (2013). He was elected an Academician of the UK Academy of Social Science in 2010.

Bob Lingard is a Professorial Research Fellow in the School of Education at the University of Queensland, Australia. A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences and Editor of the journal Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, Dr. Lingard has published twenty books, including most recently Globalizing Educational Policy (2010) (with Fazal Rizvi), Politics, Policies and Pedagogies in Education: The Selected Works of Bob Lingard (2014) and Globalizing Educational Accountabilities (2015) (with Wayne Martino, Goli Rezai-Rashti and Sam Sellar). Antoni Verger is a Senior Researcher in the Department of Sociology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. A former post-doctoral researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research of the University of Amsterdam, Dr. Verger research specializes on two main areas: the global governance of education and education privatization policies. He has published more than four dozen articles, book chapters and books on these themes, including WTO/GATS and the Global Politics of Higher Education (Routledge, 2010), and Global Education Policy and International Development: New Agendas, Issues and Programmes (Bloosmbury, 2012).

An excellent Star Wars short story. a MUST READ for fans of The Clone Wars!!!

This was my favorite of these 4 short stories. Ever since I first saw the Crimson Corsair in the Vanity Fair spread, I thought he looked cool. I wanted to know more about him. This story follows him and his crew in a race across a desert planet against other pirates searching for a lost treasure. Captain Sidon Ithano, as he is also known, is an awesome character. There's a toy coming out of him and his first mate that I think will be one of the few The Force Awakens figures I actually buy.

This story has it all. Like a lot of the new canon, it takes inspiration from all the Star Wars films and tv shows. It even starts with a Hondo quote! Fans of The Clone Wars tv series MUST read this!

I found myself using wookiepedia to get accurate ideas of what the characters looked like. The Ortolan pirate known as One-Eye is such a cool image.

The chapters are very small, which made it very easy to read. This story is full of adventure as well as comedy. I love when Star Wars stories make allusions to classic lines and such in creative ways. I never had a bad feeling about this book while I was reading it.

I give this short story a 5/5. I want more! I am so much more intrigued by the character of the Crimson Corsair. I want to follow his crew on many more adventures. I really hope Landry gets to continue writing their stories.

This short story was truly a joy to read. It's exactly the kind of fun, rich, exhilarating Star Wars story that works really well just weeks before the release of a new film. It succeeds in getting the reader invested in the characters sure to roam the halls of Maz Kanata's castle, provoking the imagination in just the right way. It's a pirate story, a treasure hunt story, and a high-speed chase story all within the framework of Star Wars. What's not to like? It's worth the read, the re-read, and the handoff to a friend.

A really fun Star Wars short story. The Crimson Corsair as a bad ass and he, along with at least one of his crew members, will be in the upcoming film; and by the looks of it, the Captain looks to be somewhat of a significant character. Therefore, I would read this solely just to become somewhat acclimated to a small part of the new movie. Also, if you're a fan of the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" TV series, there's a nice little treat for you within. Great read!

Definitely for Sci-fi fans looking for an unconventional read

I admit that I am a lazy reviewer and it takes a lot for me to get on and write something about an author or book. If I'm writing a review, then I've found something special. I read a lot of science fiction, from established icons to up and coming independents—there's a lot of good stuff out there, and a lot of not so good. Luke Smitherd writes good stuff. I came across his novel The Stone Man when it was highlighted on the BookHub website. His writing style, character development, and unique story lines made me go and read every one of his other books in the course of 2 weeks (think Hugh Howey good). Having the compilation is fantastic...I read the stories when it when it was published in four separate installments. Waiting for your next novel Luke Smitherd.

For Your Reading Pleasure - My Highest Recommendation

I read this when it was four separate books. I left five-star reviews for all of the books. I'm not going to re-write everything I wrote, but I will say this book is definitely worth your time and you are getting the deal of a lifetime by paying only $4.99 for it.

This book contains all the elements of an epic love story with science fiction and spirituality and so many other things--and it all blends together beautifully. It is suspenseful and heartbreaking. I highly recommend it. I wish there was a better way of saying that. Just read it. You will not be disappointed.

In the afterword to the book, the author was ruminating on what makes a person an actual "writer", not someone who scribbles random thoughts that no one ever reads or someone with lofty goals that never sits down at the keyboard (but plans to someday). He seemed to come to the conclusion that a true writer is someone who gets paid for writing, someone who can make a living from putting words to paper. I'm going to have to disagree. The person who wrote this book is a writer whether or not it ever makes a penny. He created people and places and worlds and made them believable and authentic. He wrote characters that are so real you feel their pain and want everything to turn out all right. I consider a good book to be one that stirs your emotions, whether those are fear, love, hate, suspense, and imagination. I just looked up the British definition for the word "fantasy": "a series of pleasing mental images, usually serving to fulfil a need not gratified in reality". I think that describes this book very well and it was written not by a writer, but by an outstanding writer.

Highly recommended read from an author thats as addictive as crack.

The first time I read this book it was in 4 parts, and I read each as they were released. The first book had me hooked. The setup and characters were intriguing, and the pace of the narrative was good, it pulled you in, and kept the story moving forward, but didn't rush and was comfortable in its own setting. The alienation and panic were excellently portrayed, and the outlandish scenario was made believable in a superbly crafted way. I empathised with our protagonist, but I didn't always like him. Despite his horrible situation, and the massive pressure he was under, sometimes he was still a bit of a dick. The second book, The woman in the night, really digs deeper into the character of Minnie, and the relationship that develops over the course of this chapter. By this time, to continue the fishing analogy at the start, I was on the rod and heading towards the keep net. As I approached the third novella, I began to worry. Would Mr Smitherd be able to pay off the resolution of these engaging, wonderful characters that we'd rooted for through many pages of my kindle, or would he muddle the ending like a certain Mr King (my favourite author) sometimes does with his otherwise excellent books? I'm glad to say that the former was true, books 3 and 4 really pack an emotional punch and leave the reader satisfied with the outcome. I would highly recommend this novel as a great read on the plane, the train or just dipping into again and again while you are out and about trying to look cool while sitting in a coffee shop sipping a gingerbread latte. By the end I had been landed in the fishermans' boat, wriggling until being knocked over the head and skinned, and would buy more of Luke Smitherds' work without a doubt. (I 've taken the fishing analogy too far on reflection.)
