About the Author
Poet David Whyte grew up with a strong, imaginative influence from his Irish mother among the hills and valleys of his father's Yorkshire. He now makes his home, with his family, in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.

The author of seven books of poetry and three books of prose, David Whyte holds a degree in Marine Zoology and has traveled extensively, including living and working as a naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands and leading anthropological and natural history expeditions in the Andes, the Amazon and the Himalaya. He brings this wealth of experience to his poetry, lectures and workshops.

His life as a poet has created a readership and listenership in three normally mutually exclusive areas: the literate world of readings that most poets inhabit, the psychological and theological worlds of philosophical enquiry and the world of vocation, work and organizational leadership.

An Associate Fellow at Templeton College and Said Business School at the University of Oxford, he is one of the few poets to take his perspectives on creativity into the field of organizational development, where he works with many European, American and international companies. In spring of 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Neumann College, Pennsylvania.

In organizational settings, using poetry and thoughtful commentary, he illustrates how we can foster qualities of courage and engagement; qualities needed if we are to respond to today s call for increased creativity and adaptability in the workplace. He brings a unique and important contribution to our understanding of the nature of individual and organizational change particularly through his perspectives on Conversational Leadership.

Kindergarten-Grade 3–The forest animals are told to get ready for the arrival of a royal family and the birth of a baby who will be the greatest king of all. Meanwhile, the little mouse plays on his acorn drum, too small and insignificant to take part in the preparations. When nobody shows up but a poor man and woman riding on a donkey, the animals assume that the royal family have changed their plans and go back to their homes. The little mouse, however, follows a bright star and encounters three kings who are looking for the stable. The small creature directs them and finds the baby and his humble parents surrounded by adoring shepherds and animals. The shepherds play a tune on their flutes, and the little mouse accompanies them on his drum. This retelling of the legend of the little drummer boy is too long for most group read-aloud occasions. While fans of Mayer's work will enjoy the anthropomorphic animals, Ezra Jack Keats's The Little Drummer Boy (Puffin, 2000) is still the best choice for most library collections.–Virginia Walter, University of California, Los Angeles

Delightful story with exceptionally detailed illustrations. A keeper

What a delightful surprise this book turned out to be. The charming story starts with the Little Drummer Mouse who is much much too little to join in any of his brothers and sisters playful games. His mother constantly worries about him because he is so small and makes him a drum out of an acorn. Now she is able to find him where ever he may be from the tap tap tap of his drum. He becomes known everywhere as The Little Drummer Mouse. Not every one likes to hear his tapping and constantly tell his to be quiet but on he beats his tiny drum.

One day a big meeting is called in the forest, announcing that the new king will be coming through their woods. All the animals decide to decorate the woods in anticipation of his coming. But nothing comes except a lot of snow and a poor man and his wife who is riding a donkey. All the animals are so disappointed. Drummer mouse is also disappointed and quietly one night sneaks out to the farmer's field to play on his drum. Suddenly, three very big men appear and ask for directions to the nearest stable. Mouse tells them where to go and decides to follow.

The ending is sweet and satisfying with mouse being able to play for the new king. But while the story is a good one, I found the best part of the book were the illustrations which are done is such detail that each page is a journey in itself. This is a wonderful book to be read to a child who is sitting on your lap or snuggled up next to you so that they may see each page up close. It's as interesting for an adult as it is for a child.

I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my five year old great niece, so I have not given it to her yet. I love the illustrations and think she will too!

Beautiful artwork and sweet story. My kids love this book! Instead of spending on Christmas decor, I decided to spend a little each year on books/ toys that teach the true meaning of Christmas. We'll store this book with our holiday decorations so it is treasured each year with newness.

Fans of Patterson's serial-killer hunting detective, Alex Cross, expecting another cat-and-mouse thriller based on this book's title, will find Cross's appearance limited to a two-page preface in which the fictional character explains why he's written a book called Trial. Abraham Cross, a relative who lived in Eudora, Miss., at the beginning of the 20th century, helps liberal lawyer Ben Corbett to expose the truth about a wave of lynchings near that town, an assignment undertaken at the request of Corbett's friend, President Theodore Roosevelt. When Corbett arrives in Eudora, where he was born and raised, he receives a frosty reception from many unhappy with his record of representing African-Americans accused of murder, including a cold shoulder from his father, a judge. Soon, Corbett finds evidence that racism is alive and well, and that brutal murders of blacks, often for the most trivial of reasons, are endemic. Some may be disappointed that Abraham plays a relatively minor role, given the jacket line that "the Cross family had more than one hero."

BEWARE--Not really an Alex Cross book

In typical Patterson style, this book was a very easy and fast read: the chapters are short, the font is large, and the descriptive text is kept to a minimum. That pretty much sums up the good qualities of the book. Patterson should be ashamed of himself titling this book Alex Cross's Trial. This is clearly a marketing ploy to lure in unsuspecting Alex Cross fans. The first two pages are about Alex Cross and he is not mentioned again in the entire 380 pages. The book is really about lynching in the South in the early 1900s. There aren't any twists and turns in the plot to keep the reader riveted and the conclusion is absolutely non-climatic. A real disappointment.

Painful Vision of Past Injustice

Trying to read Patterson's books in order but this is a bizarre deviation. Dark and ugly story about a bad time in a segregated south when, according to the book, blacks were attacked, beaten or hung for even minor offenses like standing up for themselves. Cross wrote this to settle some guilt over some family history, apparently. It is a horrible story and one that doesn't need the benefit of his story-telling mastery. It is still an ugly story and one that I couldn't finish. I'm not sure how it helps to keep dredging up the past like this but some of us would prefer to look to the future.

A very holding story line. Realistic, shows the hate and disrespect showered on the Blacks by ignorant people. This story brought to life what bigots were really like. Show no respect for humans that were seen as no better than animals. Animals were treated better. No matter what proof was presented it was disregarded.

An amazing book.

The internet is constantly bombarding us with visuals and messages and ideas. It's hard to think, if I'm being honest, which is why I got this book. I really found it useful. The author goes through the biggies like religions, cults, media, corporations and more. What I like about this book is that the author gives an introduction/history of each section of propaganda and then breaks it down to its origins on most of them. The religion section was fascinating to me because he explained the tenants of each major faith, showing their similarities and differences, then gave rational steps to objectively nullify their swaying power. Being a free thinker is important in this information age. Having a sound mind to research and calmly analyze ideas is vital to keeping your sanity. This book helped me in that regard. Highly recommend.

I have always been the curious type, asking questions about everything. My grandfather used to call the television the "idiot box," and now I understand why. Have you ever wondered why you believe certain things? Well, Jim Foster addresses these very issues in this book, UnBrainwashing Yourself.

Foster does an excellent job in explaining the propaganda behind mass media, the educations system, medical field, the government, and much more. A very eye-opening read that has made me question why I even began to watch tv in the first place. Highly recommend those who like to question the state of the world and their belief system and want to make a positive change in their lives. I have a much clearer perspective on everything and I am better for it.

Fascinating!

This book was fascinating to me with all the different subjects that it touched on while traveling parallel to the theme of the book. It was also an eye-opener for issues most current and therefore I found it extremely pertinent (and probably not only to me, but others that I know as well). I not only learned a lot about society but also myself…
I was probably most grateful for the author's intelligence and concise writing along with educating me to new ideas. If you want to know why some of the things just seem to "happen" in the your world today, this book is a fabulous headstart to understanding that!

Use of chemical pesticides expanded greatly in this century, at first slowly and then, following the launching of DDT as a broadly successful insecticide, with rapidly increasing momentum. In 1979, the President's Council on Environmental Quality reported that production of synthetic organic pesticides had increased from less than half a million pounds in 1951 to about 1.4 billion pounds-or about 3000 times as much-in 1977.

Fine, I can deal with that

Alright, so it's poorly edited, to the point of even making a few contradicting statements. Fine, I can deal with that, it's the author's first book.
And I admit I am not a believer, but the book failed to convince me or even make me question my beliefs.
What I just couldn't ignore, and absolutely ruins the book is the author's ego oozing on every page. He'll remind you of his Youtube channel, which focuses on videogames and even claims to have created a new branch of psychology... who sanctioned that?
To add insult to injury, either him or his publisher resorted to fake reviews, just read most of the five-star reviews, and for a time, gave it away for free, which is how I got it, and am I glad I didn't pay a single penny for it!

Writing is a mess

I read the preview which shows most of the book (like 90%) and I seriously don't understand the praise this book gets from the "reviews" here. The writing is TERRIBLE. it's a mess to read and the ego stroking is almost unbelievable. The way he words things makes it seem that he is telling facts instead of the purely hypothetical thing that it is. If you are a HARDCORE believer, then you'll go gaga all over this. Everyone else, don't waste your time.

Not Really Breaking New Ground

Kindle Unlimited was offering the book free of charge so I went ahead and dove in. I’ll give Chris some credit in that he has an interesting viewpoint on the afterlife. Unfortunately he presents his views as fact instead of conjecture. Often times praising his own work and not realizing how arrogant that comes across. I get that you’re trying to sell yourself, but once the product is in someone’s hands pull it back a little.

All of the investigations described in the book are conducted with several crew members. However you only get Chris’ side of the story and his interpretations. It’d be interesting to get the other investigators to recount their experiences and help broaden the scope of the book.

The book also really needs an editor to fine tune it. Grammar issues plague the text and make it difficult to digest. It’s also annoying to read the author complain about how the paranormal field isn’t elevating itself when he sprinkles unnecessary referential humor into his own book (“my spidey senses are tingling!”).

Bores is clearly passionate about ghost hunting, but his own ego holds him back. If he could learn some humility and open himself up to help and differing viewpoints, he might actually be able to accomplish some feats. As it currently stands Ghost Hunting 2.0 isn’t going to rock your worldview nor is it even a coherent guidebook. In reality it’s a glance into the mind of a person trying to create relevancy in a fading field.
