Emotionally poignant

I found this book very emotionally heavy. Here we have a heroine who hasn't moved on from her first love after many years. He comes back into her life and she is in perpetual angst. Enter Tanner who tries to be remote, but comes off nasty and cruel. But still underneath it all, they love each other. Why can't they be together you ask?! Well that is the crux of the story - you don't know because Tanner doesn't want to share why he did the things he did. Even though I was frustrated by Tanner and wanted to yell at Maggie at times - I liked them and the story held me. If you want a story that is going to pull you into an emotional morass and come out feeling good, then I recommend this one. I would have rated this a 5 star, but I fundamentally dislike when simple communication would clear up a world of hurt between people.
