Katie Kolberg Memmel was born and raised in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She dedicated her adult life to raising her family. Katie has two grown children, Tony and Megan, and presently resides in Waukesha, Wisconsin with her husband, Todd. Though her writing began as a hobby, there is nothing casual about the power and heart that every word on each page conveys. She treats her writing with unique passion, personality and purpose.

A talk across the back fence with a down-to-earth neighbor

I just finished Five Fingers, Ten Toes. I had a little trepidation knowing its serious subject matter, and even more when I realized the author has a Christian "slant." I needn't have feared. Kolberg Memmel is consistently warm, down-to-earth, and honest (more honest than I would dare to be). She never preaches. From time to time (not constantly) she shares the fact that she sees God's hand in her life. She shows how her faith gives her strength. If I were raising children, I would learn a lot from her stories about her parenting style. Best of all, she is FUNNY. She mentions often that her son is funny; he must be a chip off the old block, as they say. - Gail Grenier, author

A great read!

Here is a great read! It doesn't matter if you have or know of a child with a limb difference because it is and it isn't about that. It is the story of a child who moved through life not accepting he had one arm and a mother whose strength and love gave him the courage to do that. It's a story about a new mother's struggle with the worry and anxiety of where her beautiful new-born will fit in this world. From the opening paragraph to the last sentence, the reader is taken on a captivating journey of a mother's extraordinary strength and a son's remarkable tenacity. Tony's success will amaze you as will Katie's determination to have her son seen as whole and perfect just the way he is. It's an honest and heartwarming assessment of life when nature bestows a difference and the love and determination of a family ultimately melts it away. I felt as if the author were talking with me over a cup of coffee. Her humor and witty take on other's reaction and her own struggles made this book all the more inspirational.

Inspiring, touching and honest!

This book is a wonderful read! The author's style is so easy going and real, almost like she's sitting right there, telling you the story. Initially one might think it would be beneficial only for those raising a child born with a limb difference. But there are so many others who would benefit from this book! Anyone raising a child with any sort of difference, whether it's a physical difference or a cognitive difference, would get so much out of this book! And truly anyone raising kids at all would benefit.
What I love the most about this book is Katie Kolberg Memmel's honesty. She doesn't sugarcoat her feelings and raw emotions at all. I cried more than a few times as I read this book. And the underlying thread, throughout the book, is her unwavering faith.
This is a book that will uplift and inspire you!
